Summertime Strings

Keep playing all summer long at one of these fantastic string programs!

GNOYO

Both programs are open to GNOYO members and non-members. No audition required. Placement is based on proficiency and the needs of the orchestra. Enrollment is on a first come basis. Space is limited.

Summer Festival:

  • When: June 3rd – 7th, 2019
  • Where: Loyola University of New Orleans
  • What: Excites and inspires young musicians at all levels of proficiency during a week-long collaboration with some of the most talented professional musicians in the country.
  • Age: 7-19 years old
    • String Orchestra 7-12
    • Full Orchestra 12-19
  • Tuition: $450

Summer Orchestras

  • When: Rehearsals begin June 25th, continue every Tuesday through July 30th, from 6:30-8:00 pm. The final concert is July 30th at 7:30 pm at Roussel Hall
  • Where: Loyola University of New Orleans
  • What: GNOYO’s summer orchestral program
  • Age: 7-19 years old
  • Tuition: $250

Ellis Marsalis Center

  • Where: New Orleans
  • What: Enrolled students are provided with an instrument, and all have the opportunity to take beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons in a variety of instruments, including strings! Students participate in a recital at the end of the semester.
  • Age: 7 – 18 years old
  • Tuition: $30 per student (first come, first serve basis)

Baton Rouge Kid’s Orchestra

  • When: Session 1 – Strings is June 17th – 21st
  • Where: St. James Episcopal Day School, Baton Rouge, LA
  • What: Campers learn how to play an instrument from local professional musicians in only a week! Campers also participate in summer fun, arts & crafts, a field trip, guest visits from professional musicians, an end-of-camp performance for friends and family, and much more!
  • Age:
    • Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass (2nd grade – 5th grade)
    • Music Fundamentals (K-1st)
  • Tuition: $300, with $50 deposit

Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong Summer Jazz Camp

LAAPA Summer Camp

  • When:
    • July 8-12, July 15-19, or July 22-26
    • 9AM – 3PM
  • Where: River Ridge LAAPA location in Harahan, LA
  • What: Campers choose up to eight programs, which include string instruments. Campers will experience their choices of these programs daily plus additional programs such as a daily performance class, musical games, etc.
  • Age: 5 – 16 years old
  • Tuition: $299/week

Northshore Strings: Fiddle & Folk Camp

  • When:
    • Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14
    • 9:00 am—1:00 pm each day
  • Where: Mcelroy Irish Dance Academy 1800 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA
  • What: Celtic, Cajun, American Fiddle Tunes, Folk Songs, Irish Dance, Jam band, Music reading games, and more! Including an authentic fiddle workshop with Cajun Fiddler, Gina Forsyth
  • Age: Minimum of 1-year playing experience required, advanced players welcome
  • Tuition: New Camper $275, Returning Campers $250
    • Includes: Camp t-shirt, snacks, art supplies, music & music folder

Streetcar Suzuki Violin Studio

  • When: Summer session begins June 3rd, group classes are twice a month
  • Where: New Orleans, LA
  • What: Streetcar Suzuki Violin Studio provides a holistic and comprehensive Suzuki Violin Education that includes weekly individual lessons and twice monthly group lessons. Using the Suzuki Method of instruction enables the student to establish exceptional skills on the violin within an environment that encourages both the development of a mind attuned to critical thinking and self-discipline and a heart filled with a love for learning and sharing the joy of music.
  • Age: 4-7 years old
  • Tuition: Semester Tuition includes weekly private lessons, twice monthly group classes, parent education class, and recital fees.
