Older Cello by Henry Bentin, Master Maker New Orleans 1903
From his New Orleans workshop, this 4/4 Cello by Henry Bentin shows modeling from the finest European Makers of the time. Bentin followed his Father and Grandfather from Germany into the trade. The family immigrated from Germany first to Iowa in the late 18th century, then settled in New Orleans in 1901. This cello is in excellent condition and has a “repaired by” label from Bentin’s son Edward who repaired it in 1947. Ideal for the serious intermediate to advanced players. It is a superb instrument for demanding musicians at the price: rich in overtones with a powerful voice that is open and resonant. This is truly a unique cello, and we believe it spent at least most of it’s life in New Orleans!
